The eastern point of Hawaii's Big Island continued to experience temblors from the Kilauea volcano Saturday as local officials urged residents of lower Puna district to be prepared to evacuate on short notice.

Kilauea erupted last week, sending 2,200-degree lava bursting through cracks into people's backyards in the Leilani Estates neighborhood that destroyed 36 structures, including 26 homes.

Hawaii County authorities advised residents on the Big Island through a text message to monitor their sensitivity to increased levels of SO2, a toxic gas. Further, "elevated quake activity and ground deformation continue and additional outbreaks in the area remain likely", the report said. In her latest report, she said volcanic activity was still high.

Experts feared that Kilauea could send ash and boulders from the its summit crater, which has not been seen for almost a century.

Gamevice Looks to Stop Importation of Nintendo Switch
The problem is that a company called Gamevice is accusing Nintendo of infringing on its controller patents. However, their similarities have clearly led to a bit of a legal kerfuffle between Nintendo and Gamevice.

"Many of these earthquakes are related to the ongoing subsidence of the summit area and earthquakes beneath the south flank of the volcano".

As a result, rockfalls from the enclosing crater walls have produced small ash clouds mixed with condensed water vapour throughout the day.

USGS scientist Tina Neal at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory has been posting regular video updates. The observatory said that 15 fissures, which have emerged since May 3, have not produced any lava since Wednesday. Rocks "the size of cows" could be hurled as far as 800 meters from the site of the blast, according to one expert who spoke to local media.

Hawaii tourism officials are hoping Kilauea's eruption won't deter travelers from visiting the state's largest island, even as geologists warn the volcano could soon shoot large boulders out of its summit. Fresher magma may also produce lava fountains that shoot higher into the air and larger, faster-moving lava flows.
