A nation-wide Telstra outage was triggered around 2am after an'unknown party cut a cable between Orange and Bowral in NSW

Telstra fibre fix crew are on site at cable pit east of Orange, NSW, after a suspected lightning strike caused this morning's Telstra outage.

The issue has resulted in "intermittent" receipt of calls to the police, ambulance and fire brigade number across the country.

There are still intermittent interruptions to E000 calls in NSW, Victoria and WA following the cable cut in NSW earlier today.

The outage is believed to have been sparked by a cut cable in NSW, a Telstra spokesperson confirmed on Friday.

Police say that public requiring assistance from any of the emergency services, are urged to contact Triple Zero ('000') in the first instance.

"We are sorry that some customers were unable to make or receive calls as this was occurring".

Queensland seems to be now receiving emergency calls without issue.

The female officer was shot in the face and remains in critical condition, according to a local media source. The chief asked for people to keep the officers, their families and department in their prayers.

There are concerns, however, Telstra didn't immediately alert emergency services of the cable fault.

People are being advised to call 131 444 if they are experiencing an emergency and can't get through to 000 at the present time. Queensland has been unaffected.

The NSW Department of Justice said it experienced interruptions to its court registries and calls to the NSW Court Services Centre, but a department spokesman said phones were up and running again at 9.40am.

But businesses and customers alike have since taken to Twitter to share their frustration after some of the nation's biggest banks, who use Telstra as a supplier, were also impacted.

"We are aware some customers may be having difficulties with some of our services".

Earlier this week Telstra suffered problems with its 4G voice services.
