02 May 2018, 01:14 | Katrina Lee
Amazon will move into a new 416,000 square-foot office in Vancouver in 2022 at QuadReal’s The Post redevelopment
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh called the expansion "great news" for the city.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Vancouver Monday morning when the company revealed its plan.
Amazon plans to bring thousands of tech jobs to Boston as part of a major expansion into the Seaport District. Amazon began negotiating the lease on the development with the city earlier this year.
The technology giant is expanding its team focused on Alexa and Audible, opening an office in Boston's Seaport. The new facility will span 416,000 square feet and open in 2022. And last November, Amazon announced planed to add another downtown site in 2020 with 1,000 workers.
Along with an office in the Back Bay, a robotics facility in North Reading and a massive distribution center in Fall River, the company has added 3,500 jobs in MA since 2011, with these 2,000 more to come.
"Because they (Amazon) know at the current time, Canada may be more friendly to bringing in more immigrants with technical skills to help fill these positions", he said. The construction of this new facility is expected to generate additional funding for job training programs in Boston.
Additionally, more than 35 Canadian institutions, including the British Columbia Institute of Technology and Simon Fraser University, are accelerating the education and training of the next generation of IT and cloud professionals through the global AWS Educate initiative.
"Amazon's significant presence at The Post marks a defining moment for Vancouver's growing knowledge sector and an important catalyst for B.C.'s economy", said Dennis Lopez, QuadReal's chief executive officer. Amazon employed about 566,000 full- and part-time employees worldwide at the end of December, and on Monday announced it was hiring 3,000 people in Vancouver. Customer reviews, 1-Click shopping, personalized recommendations, Prime, Fulfillment by Amazon, AWS, Kindle Direct Publishing, Kindle, Fire tablets, Fire TV, Amazon Echo, and Alexa are some of the products and services pioneered by Amazon.

Marvel Premieres Full Trailer For Ant-Man and The Wasp
Considering how large and expansive Infinity War is, it's nice to be a little grounded (these will be the last puns, I swear). It's possible this has created a domino effect where Ant-Man has had to be shifted to best maximise the two films.
