CH-53 crash kills four crew

The Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion is the largest and heaviest helicopter in the United States military.

President Donald Trump has sent his condolences to the families of four crew members killed when a Marine helicopter crashed during a training mission in Southern California.

Four crew members are presumed dead pending positive identification, according to a statement emailed to The San Diego Union-Tribune by Marine spokeswoman Capt. Morgan Frazer in Miramar.

Officials have not confirmed the military branch of the victims or if they were all Marines, NBC 7 reported.

The authorities are investigating the crash case, to know the actual cause behind the crash.

The helicopter had flown out of the Miramar air station in San Diego before crashing near to the border, according to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.

According to the Associated Press, the CH-53E Super Stallion crash is the deadliest to involve a military aircraft since 15 Marines and a sailor were killed after a KC130T transport plane went down in MS in July 2017.

Tuesday's crash marks the deadliest crash involving Marines since past year.

This is not the first time a CH-53E was involved in a deadly crash. It is used for minesweeping and transport and can carry dozens of troops and tons of cargo.

Two years ago, 12 Marines died when two of the helicopters collided off the coast of Oahu in Hawaii.
