Battle for Karnataka on Twitter: BJP begins assault with Amit Shah faux pas
The result of 224-member assembly will be declared on May 15, said Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat.
Individuals can withdraw candidature till April 27.
He also said that the notification for the Karnataka assembly election 2018 will be released on April 17 but the election code of conduct comes into force from today.
The BJP IT cell head said the election would be held on May 12 and counting would take place on 18 May. All electronic voting machines will be linked to Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines, he said.
The Congress was quick to attack the BJP, calling the ruling party the new "Super Election Commission". Elections to three northeastern states were held last month.
Regarding politics, he said: "I had no role in Yogishgouda Goudar's wife Mallamma joining the Congress Party". On the other hand, the BJP has made a decision to rely on Hindu consolidation, particularly in the coastal belt, and decried the Congress for seeking to divide the community.
Congress presidentRahul Gandhi, himself a butt of jokes on many occasions, joked on Twitter that since the "BJP IT cell had announced Karnataka elections", it was time to give a sneak preview of Congress" "top-secret-campaign video'.
As if the stir caused by BJP's IT chief Amit Malviya wasn't enough, it was the turn of BJP President Amit Shah to inadvertently create another controversy.
Spandana posted an undated clip of Shah in which he is heard saying that "Yeddyurappa says the BJP doesn't help with the development of Karnataka". BJP chief Amit Shah's faux pas in calling Mr Yeddyurappa one of the most corrupt notwithstanding, Karnataka's propensity to vote against the national trend is a definite possibility, in a poll just 45 days away.
"Congress is ready to face election; we'll be victorious against BJP".
"I›m confident that this time the Janata Dal government, which is Janata government, will come to power", he said, reacting to the poll dates. If BJP manages to form its government in Karnataka, it will be in power on its own or in an alliance in 22 states.
