NOW THAT "Black Panther" has passed the domestic gross of the first "Avengers" movie (without adjusting for inflation), the question on the horizon becomes: Can the next "Avengers" movie beat it? Black Panther is at 1.18 billion dollars.
The Marvel epic surpassed "The Avengers", which grossed a massive $623.4 million in 2012, when it reached $630.9 million according to Sunday's (March 25th 2018) calculations. Michael B. Jordan also stars as the villain Killmonger, with Lupita Nyong'o, Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, and Andy Serkis also appearing. It is also the biggest solo superhero movie of all time worldwide, third only to the two Avengers movies ($1.5 and $1.4 billion). The film now sits at number three in the MCU based on global box office earnings, with The Avengers at number one ($1.51 billion) and Avengers: Age of Ultron at number two ($1.4 billion).
On Rotten Tomatoes, Black Panther holds a 97% rating - most for any superhero movie.
The movie is expected to remain in theatres until Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27.
