Trump Touts Arms Deals As Saudi Prince Kicks Off US Tour

'Your are beyond the Crown Prince,' Trump praises wealthy Mohammad Bin Salman

Trump, Saudi Arabia prince bond over arms deals, hostility to Iran

"He (bin Salman) could not use such amateurish lies to hide the role of Saudi Arabia's government and leaders in creating the most risky terrorist groups in modern history and in major terrorist incidents like the September 11 (attacks)", Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said, according to Iran's Tasnim News Agency.

He is on a public relations blitz while travelling in the United States, with stops in New York, Boston, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Houston.

The 32-year-old crown prince also has big economic plans, and over three weeks in the U.S. he will meet businessmen in NY, tech mavens from Google and Apple Inc.in San Francisco, and entertainment bigwigs in Los Angeles.

Tasnim News then wrote, "Decrying the Saudi crown prince's "brazen attempt" in the USA trip to seize the throne, Qassemi said bin Salman had better find a way to erase the dark record of Saudi supports for terrorism instead of spending hundreds of billions of dollars of the Saudi nation's assets on American arms".

Speaking in English, Prince Mohammed is pointing out significant Saudi investments in the U.S.

"The relationship now is probably as good as it's really ever been and I think will probably only get better - tremendous investments made in our country and that means jobs for our workers", Trump told reporters during a picture-taking session with the crown prince.

He also stressed that efforts to curb terrorism should continue so that achievements made so far could be further strengthened. Islamabad-Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain Friday reminded India to peacefully resolve the long-standing issue of Kashmir.

Trump sounded an ominous note as he looked ahead to a decision in May about whether to stay in the Iran nuclear deal, loathed by both Trump and the Saudis. The two are similar in age - Kushner is 37, while MBS is 32 - and the Trump aide sees the prince as a key ally in curbing Iran.

"But Iran has not been treating that part of the world or the world itself appropriately", he said.

Asked whether he was prepared to pull the United States out of the deal, Trump said "we're going to see what happens". He'll hold separate meetings with a long roster of influential United States officials, including the secretaries of defense, treasury and commerce, the Central Intelligence Agency chief and congressional leaders from both parties.

"Last year, the Islamic republic defused regional threats - one of their aims was to harm the Islamic republic", Khamenei said in a broadcast on state television.

The crown prince also has been closely identified with the three-year-old war in Yemen, the Arab world's poorest country, which started while he was defense minister.

The US Senate lent additional support by blocking a resolution seeking to end US support for the Saudi campaign in Yemen's civil war.

A senior Trump administration official said the two leaders talked about the humanitarian situation in Yemen and that civilian casualties "did not come up in a major way", given that Washington had been working with the Saudis to minimize them. He reiterated Saudi pledge for $200 billion in investments that would end up at $400 billion when fully implemented. They've cast themselves as essential partners against extremist groups and, especially since Trump's maiden overseas voyage a year ago, touted their lavish purchases of high-tech goods from job-creating American companies.
