PAOK vs AEK Athens abandoned: Live stream, TV channel and team news as Greek Superleague title clash is called off

Greek football match stopped after team owner invades pitch with a gun

"We have made a decision to suspend the Championship indefinitely", Greece's Deputy Culture and Sports Minister Georgios Vassiliadis told National Greek broadcaster ERT following a meeting with the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

The result of the match means AEK tops the Greek Superleague table with 55 points, Olympiacos sits second on 53 points, while PAOK is in third place with 50 points.

Savvidis was surrounded by members of his entourage and chaos ensued as supporters also hurdled hoardings to join him on the pitch.

All fixtures in the Greek Superleague have been suspended indefinitely after PAOK president Ivan Savvidis invaded the pitch with a gun during a match at the weekend.

The referee could not convince AEK to return to the pitch to complete the final few minutes of match after they expressed concern for their safety. The referee signaled a goal but then seemed to disallow it for offside.

"It won't start again unless there is a clear framework, agreed by all, to move forward with conditions and rules", he said in quotes obtained from the BBC. The match was declared 0-0 and will not be replayed, given the time that had passed when the match was abandoned.

Qualcomm v. Broadcom Round 2
That announcement came as CFIUS was reviewing another merger proposal, Broadcom's bid to purchase Brocade Communications Systems. CFIUS is an independent, multi-agency US governmental body charged with protecting USA national security.

Savvidis, a Greek-Russian businessman, took to the field in protest of the decision while accompanied by bodyguards.

Games were suspended in all divisions after referee's chief Giorgos Bikas was the victim of an arson attack in November 2016, while investigations into a match-fixing scandal that came to light in 2011 remain ongoing.

Vassiliadis also said the suspension will be indefinite until everyone involved agrees to "much tighter rules on issues of security".

"We are talking with UEFA. Given that this incident occurred in the context of a national competition, any disciplinary measure to be imposed falls under the jurisdiction of the deciding bodies of the Greek FA".

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is now on a tour of the U.S., said yesterday that the government had repeatedly pledged to tackle the shortcomings of the league but has done nothing.
