Google's announcement goes on to encourage you to use the integration safely, 'we don't encourage throwing bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life!' Mario will appear for both Android and iOS users.

Nintendo and Google partnered to add Mario Kart to the search engine's map and directions app on Android and iPhone. So if you were planning on staying home today, you now have a great excuse to pull up Google Maps and hit the road.

Why Mario Day? Because today, March 10th, can also be written as MAR10, you see, which hopefully speaks for itself.

It's a coloured-out '?' box from the Mario games. As it turns out, Google has pushed out an update to Google Maps that will replace your location icon with the image of Mario driving his kart.

In addition to sales on Nintendo games, enjoy this week-long feature.

In the meantime, Google Maps and Mario will be here all week in celebration of Mario Kart, with the plumber fist-pumping his way through traffic. He'll be a constant companion wherever you're driving this week.
