The Latest: Trump says US will 'counteract' Russia meddling

The Russia house: Trump blusters, America suffers

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Russian Federation had "no impact on our votes" in the 2016 presidential contest but vowed to combat any attempts to meddle in the 2018 midterms.

"Doesn't hurt us." "So we'll see what happens", Trump said indicating that the United States is ready for a trade war and is confident of winning it.

"But certainly there was meddling and probably from other countries and maybe other individuals".

Top intelligence officials, however, have said that so far, the USA has responded weakly to Russia's disinformation campaign to sow discord in America and raise doubts about the integrity of the presidential election.

The indictment prompted a wave of partisan finger-pointing, as Republicans accused former President Barack Obama's administration of having been too soft on Russian Federation, while Democrats excoriated President Donald Trump's administration for not taking decisive steps to punish or repudiate Moscow's efforts to interfere in an American election.

Trump said his administration is conducting a deep study and will have strong suggestions on protecting the midterms and beyond. One of the things we're learning, it's always good to have a paper back-up system of voting.

"Because we'll counteract whatever they do".

Trump on Tuesday dismissed the notion his team was unraveling, saying he likes conflicts among his aides and that he has his pick of top talent for West Wing jobs.

"You don't want your system of votes to be compromised in any way", he added. Not highly complex computers.

The president's pledge for action, which would be in line with a one of his campaign promises, came after House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin called for a "more surgical approach" that would help avert a potentially unsafe trade war.

A tweet from the Dunraven School in Lambeth said: "We'd hoped things would have been resolved by now". Employees also ferried water to residential streets in the capital's north in their own cars.

Trump downplayed the risks of a trade war on Tuesday, and said his proposals wouldn't be draconian.

"There will be people, I won't be specific, but there will be people that change", Trump said.

"The European Union has been particularly tough on the United States, they make it nearly impossible for us to do business with them and yet they send their cars and everything else back into the United States", Trump said. "And I think it will be a tremendous surprise to people how well".

President Donald Trump is hailing Sweden as one of America's oldest and closest partners.

Republican Sen. David Perdue of Georgia, who opposes the tariffs, said after meeting Tuesday with White House chief of staff John Kelly that the administration was willing to consider his views.

"I really believe they are honest".

The president said the United States would closely monitor the vote to ensure its integrity.

"They'll like us better, and they will respect us much more", he said. Warmbier later died after returning to the US.

"No, because we'll counteract whatever they do", he said.
