Porsche 911 GT3 RS - road-legal racer reloaded

Faster Porsche 911 GT3 RS to be revealed at Geneva
While we expected that the 911 GT3 RS might see a higher capacity engine make its way into the auto, Porsche has stuck to the naturally aspirated 4-litre engine. In its new form it pushes an impressive 520 hp, 20 hp more than the outgoing model and the current Porsche 911 GT3.
The new Porsche 911 GT3 is blisteringly quick off the line, accelerating from 0-100kph in just 3.2 seconds, which is one-tenth of a second faster than its predecessor. With this pack fitted, the 911 GT3 RS comes in at 1,430kg.
Aerodynamics have determined the design of the wide, weight-optimized body with its classic rigid rear wing. The front hood and fenders, and rear decklid are made made from carbon fiber, while the roof is magnesium. They include new LED indicator lamps set within a re-profiled front bumper featuring new vertical air flow guides within the outer air ducts to more efficiently channel air to the front mounted radiators and brakes. Aerodynamic drag is reduced overall, even though downforce - the invisible force that pushes a auto down on the road at high speeds - is increased by 8%, thanks largely to a cleverly designed rear diffuser. Hence the Porsche 911 GT3 RS receives modified fascia at the front with a bigger spoiler. Porsche makes much of the interior from carbon fibre, including the single piece bucket seats.
Inside the auto has carbon fiber reinforces seats, lightweight glass for windows, lightweight door panels with opening loops, reduced sound deadening, and omission of the rear seats.
The GT3 RS features recalibrated rear steering and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus for better cornering.
We can see Porsche did not bother itself with many changes when it shifted from the 991 generation to the 991.2 refresh, but there are slight changes in the latest GT3 RS.
However, the top speed of the new 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS has come down by 3kph to 312kph thanks to the revisions to the aerodynamics of the sports vehicle which result in more downforce. In that respect, the ability to rev to 9,000rpm and enjoy the immediate response of an engine that doesn't rely on turbochargers is likely to ensure the ultimate 911 remains as desirable as ever to petrolheads.
Porsche says the only available transmission will be a seven-speed, dual-clutch PDK automatic.
Porsche Motorsport began development of the new 911 GT3 RS not long after it started working on the GT2 RS, and it shows.
The UK mag adds that the new GT3 RS has the same spring rates front and rear as the turbocharged GT2 RS, launched in July 2017. The ceramic rotors weigh around 50 percent less than the cast-iron variants.
A Weissach package is available to to reduce the weight of the 911 GT3 RS even further. Hence this package also saves some weight by fitting roof and sway bars with carbon fiber components. There's also a track-focused optional extra called the Weissach package, which features lightweight carbon fibre parts on the chassis and in the cabin.
