A 4.2-magnitude quake hit southern Wales Saturday morning, the first in the United Kingdom of that size in about 10 years.

The BGS said such an event only occurs in Britain about every two to three years.

More than 4,000 reported the tremor in the first hour with the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, with students at Swansea University evacuated after the quake struck.

The British Geological Survey says it measured around 4.4 magnitude and originated 20km north of Swansea at a depth of 7.4km.

No injuries have been reported.
