Two police officers were fatally shot on Saturday in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, as they responded to a potential domestic violence situation following a 911 hang-up call, police said.

The two officers were responding to a 911 call at the address in Westerville.

"These were two of the best we have". "They knew how to do policing the right way, both of them".

The suspect was taken into custody on the scene, though it is unclear how many people were injured in the attack, according to the news station. The suspect's condition and identity have not been released.

The suspect in the shooting is in custody, officials said.

The City of Westerville has confirmed the second officer shot during a gun battle Saturday has died.

US Trade Deficit Rises to $566 Billion, Highest Since 2008
The December goods-and-services gap was wider than the median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg for $52.1 billion. Total US exports of goods and services in 2017 rose 5.5 percent to $2.3 trillion, their second highest level on record.

Trea Horne tells The Associated Press the couple who lived in the Westerville townhome where the shooting occurred Saturday moved in about eight months ago.

Before Morbitzer spoke, Westerville city manager Dave Collingsworth identified the fallen officers as Eric Joering and Anthony Morelli.

Westerville sits about 16 miles north of downtown Columbus, Ohio.

"The officers gave their lives in defense of others", Morbitzer said during a news conference, struggling to keep his emotions in check.

The incident prompted President Donald Trump to share his condolences on Twitter. "We will learn more soon about this tragic incident but please join me in lifting up these officers' families in prayer".
