Trump calls on Dems to 'get tough' on immigration after Colt's death

Trump: 'Disgraceful' that man in US illegally allegedly killed athlete

Federal immigration authorities say a man being held in a suspected drunken-driving crash that killed an Indianapolis Colts player has a prior driving-under-the-influence conviction in California.

Curry filed felony charges earlier in the day against the suspect, Manuel Orrego-Savala, a citizen of Guatemala who has twice been deported from the U.S. Orrego-Savala is accused of driving the pickup truck that hit Jackson and his Uber driver, 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe, early Sunday in Indianapolis.

Orrego-Savala was deported in 2007 and 2009, and was again living illegally in the U.S.at the time of the crash, according to investigators.

Orrego-Savala attempted to flee the scene of the accident on foot, but he was immediately apprehended by Indiana State Police and is now being held in county jail.

The accident happened early Sunday morning while 26-year-old Jackson and his Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe were pulled off to the side of the road. The Georgia Southern product had 61 tackles and two sacks and started eight games in 2016 for the Colts.

Indiana Rep. Todd Rokita, a Republican, said that "the loss of life at the hands of illegal immigrant criminals should make all Hoosiers sad and ultimately angry".

Orrego-Savala appeared Tuesday before a judge who advised him of his rights.

"So disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed @Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson".

Orchestral manoeuvres - South Korean protesters greet North Korean Olympics ferry
The plan centers around rallying the worldwide community to further isolate North Korea both diplomatically and economically. Pence says he hasn't requested any meeting "but we'll see what happens".

Marion County prosecutors planned to announce Wednesday before 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala's initial hearing whether he'll face criminal charges in Sunday's crash along Interstate 70 in Indianapolis.

"I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Indianapolis @Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson", Pence tweeted Monday. They say Jackson and Monroe were struck and killed by a pickup truck driven by Orrego-Savala. He faces up to 10 years in prison on the immigration charge, which the US attorney's office said would be handled after any state charges are resolved.

On Tuesday morning, President Trump tweeted a condemnation of Orrego-Savala and sent his condolences to Jackson's family.

"This was a completely preventable tragedy", he told Fox News' "Fox & Friends."

Meyer says he is working with Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry about opening an investigation into possible identity crimes Orrego-Savla may have committed while living in Indiana.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County coroner's office. Police reported they believe he was intoxicated and driving without a license. His other aliases include variations on the spelling of Orrego-Savala.

Trump was not the only GOP politician to use Jackson's death to renew calls for increased security along the southern USA border with Mexico.
