Traveling to Cape Town? Take a shower before you leave and don't flush when it's yellow

Zille takes charge of Western Cape's #WaterCrisis

Like most residents of Cape Town, my household of four has had to change our habits to conserve water.

The City of Cape Town says it will ensure that its water-borne sewerage system continues to function in the event of Day Zero.

Authorities believe that "day zero" for the water situation will be 12 April.

Within months, South Africa's oldest city, nicknamed the "Mother City", is at risk of becoming the world's largest metropolis to run out of water. "This means limiting the amount of water you drink, limiting the showers that you take".

Residents have been urged to keep track of water usage by making use of the water dashboard on the City's website.

The minister said critics like Western Cape Premier Helen Zille and DA leader Mmusi Maimane were trying to absolve themselves of their responsibilities in the management of the water crisis.

Ricky Gervais Says Tide Pods Are for Bathing, Not Eating!!!
On its part, YouTube said video challenges that could spawn unsafe acts will be immediately flagged and marked for deletion. Why is the tide pod challenge risky ? Last year, College Humor published a video titled "Don't Eat the Laundry Pods".

"We will not be drawn into petty political squabbles while the people and economy of the Western Cape are on the verge of a possible water supply blackout", Mokonyane said on Wednesday.

"Not enough dams have been built over the time that the population has grown and infrastructure has remained the same and that's why the city now finds itself in the position that it's in", Fihlani said. Instead, she boils about 1.5 litres of water and mixes it with about a litre of tap water to have her daily wash while the rest of us catch the slow running water in a bucket for re-use in the toilet cistern.

Even as citizens of the Cape Town have been contributing to the massive water conservation efforts to combat the area's drought, however, according to mayor Patricia de Lille, some people are "callously" using more than their current limit. These restrictions follow the guidelines set by the World Health Organization for minimum water needed in an emergency.

The new water management team, which was now installing as many as 2,500 Water Management Devices per week, would also be accelerating its installation programme in a bid to bring consumption down to 450ML per day.

The Western Cape Government has diverted more than R369 million in funding towards disaster interventions - including water supply projects, drought relief for farmers and water security measures at key government service points, Zille's office said.
