Moshe Holtzberg arrives in Mumbai
Moshe, the baby with the golden curls-one of the three survivors from the Chabad House carnage who became the unforgettable face of hope even when confronted with the 26/11 terror attack-is returning to Mumbai today, the first time in 10 years since his parents were gunned down by terrorists.
Moshe Holtzberg, who lost his parents during the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday. The Jewish couple ran a cultural and outreach centre for the Chabad-Lubavitch movement from the building in Colaba.
Moshe's grandfather Shimon Rosenberg said he and his wife will accompany their grandson when he lands in Mumbai on Tuesday. "We are very excited to meet Moshe, who's not a baby anymore but will always remain a baby in our hearts".
On Friday, "Moshe will fly back to Israel with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu", whose India visit began on Sunday.
While Moshe's father Gavriel and mother Rivka Holtzberg, who was five months pregnant at the time, were killed in the attack, the toddler was fortunately rescued by his nanny Sandra Samuel, who found him crying beside his parents' bodies. He met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Israel previous year, who left him an open invitation to visit India any time he wanted.
"I'm very happy", a rather startled looking Moshe told reporters in Hindi. I will say hi to the people of India.
Rosenberg has requested the Indian ambassador to Israel that Nariman House be registered as belonging to Moshe. Nariman House, a Jewish center where Moshe's family lived and worked, was one of the places attacked.
He was later taken to Chabad House in south Mumbai where on Thursday he will join Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the unveiling of a memorial to the victims of the 26/11 attacks.
The 11-year-old is reportedly keen on visiting the Taj Mahel and the Gateway of India. He landed at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport where Moshe and his grandfather were welcomed by Israeli authorities.
"This is the building where he received his last hug and kiss from his parents".
