Trump accuses China of allowing oil into North Korea

The US says these spy satellite images taken in October showed a North Korean vessel trying to conduct a ship-to-ship transfer.

Trump said on Twitter that China had been "Caught RED HANDED", adding he was "very disappointed that China is allowing oil to go into North Korea".

The comments come after South Korean newspaper reported Chinese and North Korean vessels had been illicitly linking up at sea to get oil to North Korea.

The US Treasury Department announced in November that a series of North Korea shipping and trading companies had attempted to conduct a ship-to-ship transfer - likely of oil - to evade United Nations sanctions.

Trump's tweet came after a South Korean newspaper published what it said were USA spy satellite images of Chinese ships selling oil to North Korean ships.

Members of the Trump administration have repeatedly vowed to stop North Korea's nuclear program - and have not ruled out a military option that some analysts fear could lead to a nuclear conflict.

Can Arsenal stop the rot versus Liverpool?
Joe Gomez completed 90 minutes in the draw against Arsenal on Friday night - and the Liverpool fans ripped into him on Twitter. Both sides won their last Premier League game, with Arsenal beating Newcastle 1-0 and Liverpool romping Bournemouth 4-0.

In the interview, Trump said he'd be willing to launch a pre-emptive strike against North Korea if negotiating "like crazy" didn't work.

Trump's key to North Korea, however, has always been China and his personal relationship with Xi. The latest sanctions adopted Friday, in response to the test of a North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile, also impose sharp reductions on imports of refined oil products by the isolated nation.

"As North Korea continues to threaten global peace and security, we are steadfast in our determination to maximize economic pressure to isolate it from outside sources of trade and revenue while exposing its evasive tactics", Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said at the time.

President Trump said he was "very disappointed" over a report that China is continuing to supply oil to North Korea - as pressuring the rogue nation to give up its nuclear weapons program is one of the president's biggest challenges heading into 2018. She said, "the Chinese government has been completely and strictly enforcing Security Council resolutions".

"China has applied certain import bans and sanctions, but it could and should do more", he wrote in The New York Times.
