Cops Find $300000 Worth of "Christmas" Pot in Elderly Couple's Truck
23 December 2017, 12:49 | Katrina Lee
Sheriff deputies in York, Nebraska arrested an elderly couple driving cross-country with 60 lbs of marijuana which the elderly pair said was intended for Christmas gifts.
Photo provided by the York County, Nebraska sheriff's department shows the marijuana recovered from a truck driven by Patrick and Barbara Jiron of Clearlake Oaks, California, during a traffic stop.
"They said the marijuana was for Christmas presents", Lt. Paul Vrbka of the York County Sheriff's Department told the York News-Times. Police immediately noticed the "strong odor of raw marijuana", the York News Timesreports, and promptly found 60 (!) pounds and $336,000-worth ($336,000!) of pot in the auto.
The Sheriff's Office said the estimated value of the marijuana found in boxes inside the pickup's truck topper was $336,000. Barbara was not arrested, but Patrick was.
Patrick Jiron was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver and no drug stamp - all felonies - while his wife received a citation.
In fact, it's illegal to possess marijuana at all in Nebraska. "Legalization of marijuana for any goal has proven to be a risky proposition because the controls placed on its use in other states have fallen short", Nebraska governor Pete Ricketts said in 2015.
