The Notebook 9 Pen is a 2-in-1 Windows 10 machine that can be used as a traditional laptop or folded back on itself to create a tablet or propped up display for use with the S Pen, Samsung's take on the stylus. The device makes use of the 8th generation Intel Core i7 processor paired with up to 16GB RAM and up to 512GB storage space. The Metal12 is made of magnesium-aluminium alloy which makes the device durable and light. The 13.3-inch screen variant comes standard with Intel HD graphics while the 15-inch model comes with optional 2GB NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics processor. The Notebook 9 (2018), with a weight of up to 1.29 kg and a thickness of 15.4mm, is also one of the lightest and thinnest notebooks in its category.

Samsung added a set of potentially handy software tools, too, such as Studio Plus for photo and video content creation, Samsung Message that lets you send messages from the laptop to contacts saved on your phone and a voice-activated note-taking app.
Samsung plans to first release these 2018 models in Korea starting this month, followed by other countries; the United States will get them in the first quarter of next year. These models feature 720p HD front-facing camera and are fitted with fingerprint scanner for security. The notebooks pack a 75Wh battery but Samsung is not sharing the standby time one can expect from the notebook. The 13-inch offers the same ports as the S Pen model except it features one extra USB 3.0 port.
Coming to the specifications, the 13.3-inch and 15-inch models bears a Full HD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The Korean firm did not wait for the CES to make the announcement, suggesting the company does not want its laptop to be overpowered by other brands during the tech event, where new laptops are usually launched.
System builders have been releasing new and refreshed laptop models built around Intel's recently launched 8th Generation Core processor family for mobile (Kaby Lake Refresh or Kaby Lake-R, not to be confused with Coffee Lake on the desktop). As for ports, the Samsung Notebook 9 Pen comes with one USB Type-C port, one USB 3.0 port, one HDMI ports and a Dollars card slot.
