Baker Mayfield becomes Oklahoma's 6th Heisman Trophy victor

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield goes from walk-on to Heisman Trophy winner

I think the whole thing was blown up more than it needed to be, but things are amplified when you're the best player in college football, so I do understand that part of the deal. After finishing fourth in the Heisman vote in 2015 and third last year - when this year's third-place finisher, Jackson, won it - Mayfield became the seventh player to finish in the top five of the Heisman vote three times.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield has been named the victor of the 2017 Heisman Memorial Trophy.

According to ESPN, Mayfield is the first senior to win the award since Ohio State's Troy Smith in 2006.

Mayfield also broke his own NCAA record for passing efficiency, which he set previous year with a 203.8 rating this season.

This season, Mayfield has passed for 4,340 yards with 41 touchdowns and just five interceptions, and he has rushed for 310 yards and five more scores.

Houthi rebels 'in control' of Yemen capital, Saleh forces say claims false
A senior official with Yemen's internationally-recognized government confirmed to The Associated Press that Saleh had been killed. The fighting that led to Saleh's death also apparently allowed the Houthis gain control of the majority of Yemen's capital Sanaa.

Mayfield has 14,320 yards and 129 touchdowns though the air in his college career.

Mayfield won the award over fellow finalists Bryce Love of Stanford and 2016's Heisman Trophy recipient Lamar Jackson of Louisville.

Mayfield also discussed overcoming some difficulties, and although he didn't name them specifically, his February arrest for public intoxication and his one-series suspension for making a lewd gesture toward Kansas Jayhawks players this season may have been among the incidents he was referencing.

For the second year in a row, he completed 71 percent of his passes, which led the nation. If I'm an National Football League coach, I want him running my team.
