Large-scale joint U.S. and South Korean military exercises are taking place on the Korean Peninsula
The U.N. political affairs chief received a warm welcome on Thursday as he held talks with North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, with Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs likely high on the agenda.
North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency only reported Ri met with Feltman, without providing any information about what they discussed. North Korea is not interested in escalation of tensions on the Korean Peninsula, but is not afraid of war, Chairman the Federation Council Committee for Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev said after a meeting with North Korea's Ambassador to Russia Kim Hyong-jun.
Lavrov then conveyed the offer on Monday when United Nations official, Jeffrey Feltman met North Korea's foreign minister, Ri Yong-ho in Pyongyang during the first United Nations visit to the country in six years.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the Guam-based bomber simulated land strikes at a military field near South Korea's eastern coast during a drill with USA and South Korean fighter jets.
State media also said Feltman visited a Pyongyang maternity hospital and a "disease prevention" facility, but left out mention of details around his meeting with foreign ministry officials.
Missing 3-Year-Old Is Believed to Be Dead, Police Say
Kimrey removed the girl's body from the place where she died and knew her death was not natural, according to arrest warrants. Officials said 730 volunteers participated in a search for Mariah on Friday. "We all hoped and prayed to find her alive".
Kosachev added that there is no alternative to the Russian-Chinese settlement plan for the North Korean situation.
On Wednesday, Feltman discussed assistance of United Nations agencies to North Korea and other issues of mutual interest with the country's Vice Foreign Minister Pak Myong Guk, according to KCNA.
B-1Bs flyovers have become an increasingly familiar show of force to North Korea, which after three intercontinental ballistic missile tests has clearly moved closer toward building a nuclear arsenal that could viably target the US mainland.
Analysts in South Korea say the visit is a significant gesture for North Korea.
U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert has said Feltman is not visiting Pyongyang on behalf of Washington.
