Never asked Sibal to get Ayodhya case postponed: Sunni Board
Senior advocate and Congress leader Kapil Sibal found himself on a sticky wicket in the controversy over whether he was representing the the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board when he urged the Supreme Court on Tuesday to adjourn the legal battle over ownership of the 2.77 acre disputed Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi land in Ayodhya till after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The first hearing was set a day before the 25th anniversary of the demolition of medieval-era mosque, Babri Masjid. "He is entitled to do that, but is it right for him to say postpone hearing till 2019?" "Shameful posturing by Congress on Ram Temple issue!" he said in a tweet.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unleashed a tirade against Sibal and Congress over "the cause of the Muslim community" and suggestion "to stop the hearing of Ram temple (issue) in the name of elections". "Does the Waqf Board fight elections?"
"I want to question the Congress Party and explain if it wants the Ram Janmbhoomi matter to be heard at the earliest or not", he asked.
The Hindus, however, claim that a Ram temple that originally stood there was demolished to construct the mosque.
US Asks China To Cut Off Oil Supply To North Korea
Speaking at the UNSC on Wednesday, Haley warned that North Korea's government will be "utterly destroyed" if a war breaks out. China could control North Korea's regime but doesn't see the need to do so - at least not yet, says a USA senator.
Soon after Kapil Sibal's suggestion hit the TV screens of the news channels and flashed on news websites, the Sunni Waqf Board rejected the move saying, "No such directive had been given by the board". "They are least bothered about the nation".
Rehmani also said that Sibal had talked about shifting of the hearing on the advice of the AIMPLB and other Muslim parties.
Modi said now he understands why the Congress kept many issues unresolved, without elaborating but implying that it was done to derive political mileage.
Haji Mehboob's remarks lend credence to the Bharatiya Janata Party's allegation that Sibal behaved as an agent for the Congress party in the Supreme Court rather than as an agent for the Sunni Waqf Board who was seeking a resolution of the long-standing dispute. Are these thoughts of delaying the hearing for elections that of the Waqf Board?
Surjewala's attack at the BJP comes after Amit Shah, in a press briefing, took a potshot at the Congress Party and its vice president, Rahul Gandhi, for adopting "double standard" in the matter.
