Hampden loses out on hosting opening match of Euro 2020

Wembley to host seven Euro 2020 matches including final after Brussels political row over stadium

UEFA has confirmed that all Group D games of the 2020 European Football Championship will be played in London and Glasgow, meaning that Wembley Stadium was given an additional four matches besides the semifinals and final.

With delays to the construction of a proposed stadium in the Belgian city of Brussels, UEFA has made the decision to move the group-stage matches that were originally set for Belgium to Wembley Stadium, as well as a Round-of-16 matchup.

Cardiff and Stockholm had also been in contention to host the extra games.

"It's an honour to be one of the 12 nations that will play a part in this prestigious "EURO for Europe" tournament and I would like to thank the UEFA executive committee for giving us the opportunity to stage these games".

"The FAW wishes the FA and Wembley Stadium the very best for UEFA EURO 2020, which is sure to be a fantastic tournament".

However, UEFA opted for Wembley, which has already been chosen as the venue for the semi-finals and final.

The bickering between Google and Amazon has been going on several years as they have ratcheted up the competition with each other. Amazon made the decision to not sell Google devices in 2015, since the Chromecast didn't support Amazon Prime Video.

UEFA selected Rome's Stadio Olimpico to be the venue for the opening game of the 24-team tournament, despite interest from Glasgow's Hampden Park.

Each host nation that qualifies will be guaranteed two home matches in the group stage.

As well as deciding where the first game, on June 12, will be and what to do about Brussel's difficulties, the executive committee also announced where each of the six groups' games will be played.

Bilbao and Dublin were paired together.in Group E.

The boost to England's credentials as a host of major tournament football comes after it emerged this week that chairman Greg Clarke has begun laying the groundwork for a potential bid for the 2030 World Cup.

"This has been a collective and collaborative process and we could not have done it without the support of the Government and the Mayor of London".
