06 December 2017, 12:37 | Nina Hammond

Warm Tuesday, but wet snow possible late this week

Some icy spots may be found on the area's roadways this morning but that should melt away as temperatures climb into the low 50s according to the National Weather Service at State College

Right now we are tracking a couple strong cold fronts across the Plains.

As the cold front gets closer to the state, a line of rain and an occasional thunderstorm will move in to the state late Monday night in to early Sunday morning.

More importantly, a cold front is going to usher in much colder weather, putting an abrupt end to the prolonged period of mild weather that those in the Parkland have enjoyed in recent weeks. The fog will return tonight but it will be more patchy in nature as lows tumble into the low 50s and upper 40s.

Extended forecast Tuesday: Partly sunny with a high of 37 degrees and a low of 26 degrees.

The storm will come out of the Rockies and an area of low pressure will develop in the lower levels of the atmosphere - bringing MUCH warmer weather to start the week.

At midnight on Friday, virtually every coastline across the nation will be engulfed in snow with low-level settling snow possible "anywhere", according to Weather Outlook. The change to colder air will happen in three stages.

Today and tomorrow will see temperatures of 11-13c during the day and dropping to 3c at night.
