JACKSONVILLE, N.C (WNCT)- The Onslow County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have made an arrest in connection with the disappearance of 3-year-old Mariah Woods.

Authorities in North Carolina have arrested a man in connection with the disappearance of a young girl and said they are determined to find the child's body. Woods told WCTI-TV in New Bern earlier in the week.

In a statement issued just before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, the sheriff's office said that information gathered in the search for Mariah led authorities to believe she is dead, although no body has been recovered.

The authorities said Kimrey faces charges of concealing of death, obstruction of justice, second-degree burglary, felony larceny and possession of stolen property.

Miller said that the outpouring of support from the community has been "overwhelming" and asked that residents continue to support each other "as we all grieve the life of this little girl and still focus on finding her". Mariah has been missing since Sunday night when her mother put her to bed.

Kimrey removed the girl's body from the place where she died and knew her death was not natural, according to arrest warrants. Deputies say her body has not been found.

"It is believed that Mariah is deceased", the Onslow County Sheriff's Office said in a statement, even as what happened to Mariah Woods after her mother tucked her into bed almost a week ago remains a mystery. He is being held in the Onslow County Detention Center under a $1.01 million bond.

Officials said 730 volunteers participated in a search for Mariah on Friday.

"We all hoped and prayed to find her alive". Once they realized she was missing, the couple said they called authorities.

The Jacksonville, N.C., girl went missing late Saturday, prompting her father, Alex Woods, to question his ex-wife's statement about the girl's whereabouts.

The girl is shy and has an orthopedic leg problem, her grandmother said, according to CBS News. Meador said they also sifted through roughly 95,000 pounds of trash by hand for evidence, and some "items of interest" were sent to the Marine Corps Base at Quantico for testing.
