Justice Department to Consider Special Counsel for Uranium One Deal

Sessions raises prospect of special counsel on GOP concerns

Justice Department Confirms Prosecutors Are

"Each of those are pretty special factual situations, and we will use the proper standards, and that's the only thing I can tell you, Mr. Jordan" Sessions said.

In October, Sessions testified to the Senate that he did not have any "continuing exchange of information" with Russian operatives - and that he wasn't "aware of anyone else [on the Trump campaign] that did". It was after Sessions's recusal that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Robert Mueller 3rd to lead the investigation into the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.

Sessions said at the hearing on Tuesday that he forgot about the March 2016 meeting because the Trump campaign was "a form of chaos" from the beginning. Sessions would not say whether the dossier was used by the FBI to obtain warrants to surveil Trump associates, nor would he comment on any hypothetical investigation into Justice Department leaks to the media about the dossier.

"We travelled all the time, sometimes to several places in one day".

Sessions later said he recalled the meeting following news reports about it.

During an Oval Office meeting with the president on November 1, Pirro denounced Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his refusal to go after Clinton, who was Secretary of State when the deal was approved. "I have chose to recuse myself from any existing or future investigations of any matters related in any way to the campaigns for President of the United States", he said.

Trump Will Consider Sending NYC Terrorist to Guantanamo Bay
John McCain (R-Ariz.), pushing for the terror suspect to be sent to Gitmo and be treated as an enemy combatant. He also suggested he would consider sending the suspect to the Guantanamo Bay military prison in Cuba.

"I do now recall" the meeting where adviser George Papadopoulos made the proposal, Sessions said, "but I have no clear recollection of the details of what he said during the meeting".

Sessions grew angry in response, repeating that he had never lied under oath.

The hearing is the first time Sessions will testify before the House Judiciary Committee, and members are also likely to press the attorney general on all the ways he has reshaped the Justice Department in his nine months on the job.

Sessions previously said he had "no recollection" of the meeting that he chaired that included Papadopoulos until a picture of it surfaced after the staffer's guilty plea for false statements. When The Washington Post later revealed he had twice spoken with Russia's ambassador to the United States, he revised his account, saying he had no meetings with Russians "to discuss issues of the campaign". He said recently that officials there "should be looking at the Democrats" and that it was "very discouraging" they were not "going after Hillary Clinton".

The Senate Judiciary Committee is also expected to demand that Donald Trump Jr. appear before them to explain a series of private Twitter messages between him and WikiLeaks during and after the 2016 election.
