President Trump Strikes Back at 'Short and Fat' Kim Jong Un

Putin and Jinping

U.S. Pacific Fleet commander Scott Swift said the triple-carrier drill, in which Japanese and South Korean vessels will also take part, was the first in the region since 2007.

Asked at news conference with Vietnam's president later Sunday if he could become friends with the North Korean leader, Trump replied it "might be a odd thing to happen but it's certainly a possibility".

Following his stop in South Korea, the President travelled on to China - North Korea's biggest ally and trading partner. "It is a hell that no person deserves", Trump said.

Trump, 71, sarcastically responded that he hopes one day to be friends with Kim, who oversees a developing nuclear weapons and ballistic missile arsenal.

On Aug. 8, Trump threatened the regime with "fire and fury like the world has never seen", leading Kim to say he would consider sending missiles into the waters off the coast of Guam in "mid-August".

Visiting Asia, the president has tried to bring the world together in pressurising North Korea's nuclear weapons programme, something that's proving somewhat of a tough task.

North Korean officials described Trump's trip as "nothing but a business trip by a warmonger to enrich the monopolies of the USA defense industry".

Saudis gamble on Hariri resignation to check Iranian grip on Lebanon
Iran's Foreign Ministry said Hariri's departure was a plot to "create tension in Lebanon and the region". Israel is not interested in escalation in the near future, and the same is true of Hezbollah.

In this undated photo distributed on September 16, 2017, by the North Korean government, leader Kim Jong Un, center, celebrates what was said to be the test launch of an intermediate range Hwasong-12 missile at an undisclosed location in North Korea.

It's a continuation in the ongoing war of words, even as the regime's missile test have noticeably paused - a surprising development given that North Korea has often followed these verbal spars with threats and missile tests.

North Korea has dominated Mr Trump's Asia trip so far to Japan, South Korea, China and Vietnam.

Kim responded to those jabs with an insult of his own, saying in a statement aimed at Trump that "I will surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged USA dotard with fire".

This isn't the first time Trump and Kim have traded barbs.

The secretive kingdom's state-controlled media service told the North Korean people today how their former countrymen south of the Demilitarised Zone are suffering "untold pains under the USA occupation and domination".
