FSU Fraternity Suspended After Student Dies at Off-Campus Party

FSU student found dead after off-campus fraternity party

A 20-year-old Florida State University student was found dead Friday, the morning after an off-campus fraternity party, the Tallahassee Police Department said.

FSU President John Thrasher announced the suspension on Monday, according to the university's Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

Andrew Coffey, a pledge at Pi Kappa Phi, died after attending an off-campus house party Friday. Police said there were indicators that alcohol may have been a factor.

It's unclear how long the suspensions will last, and Thrasher has also banned the use of alcohol during organized school events.

Iyer, Siraj included in India T20 squad
On the other hand, Ashish Nehra will be part of the squad only till the first T20I, which will be his last at Ferozeshah Kotla. There are no surprises in the Test squad with Abhinav Mukund making way for a fit-again first-choice opener Murali Vijay.

Thrasher said the pause was necessary to "review and reflect on the loss of a young life", according to a press release.

"I want to send a serious message, I really do. There must be a new culture, and our students must be full participants in creating it", Thrasher said in a statement. Shelton said all chapter operations are now suspended and its members have been directed to fully cooperate with the death investigation. "Unfortunately we've got to take steps with our students, to make sure this never happens again". Louisiana State had a one-month suspension and continues to ban alcohol at Greek parties after the hazing death of 18-year old Maxwell Gruver in September.

Florida State University's Vice President for Student Affairs Amy Hecht said the university is working with the city police department. And they're part of the solution.

They will be allowed to remain as residents in their fraternity or sorority house and will have meal service.
