Bowling Green man charged with assaulting Sen. Paul

A second neighbor told local news station WNKY said that the Senator was mowing his lawn around 3 p.m. on Friday when Boucher assaulted him.

Police were not immediately clear on why Boucher allegedly assaulted Paul.

A spokeswoman for Paul said the senator was "blindsided" by the assault but did not provide more details.

She added that the Senator was "fine" and the incident is now a matter for police.

A spokesperson for Paul confirmed the senator suffered five broken ribs in the incident. He is an ophthalmologist who has practiced in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he moved with his wife in 1993.

"Kelley and I appreciate the overwhelming support after Friday's unfortunate event".

By late Saturday, the page had been overrun by other Facebook users criticizing Boucher for his alleged assault on Paul.

Boucher admitted to tackling Paul, the criminal complaint says.

The investigation is ongoing.
