NYC TERROR ATTACK: Trump calls for extreme vetting
02 November 2017, 12:26 | Katrina Lee
President Donald Trump has blasted a New York City attacker as'very sick and deranged following the death of at least eight people in lower Manhattan
But when eight people were mowed down in a terrorist attack by a man shouting "Allahu akbar", President Donald Trump pounced nearly immediately, seizing on the tragedy to push his proposals for tightening immigration controls.
First political blame from Trump: Follows up with tweets the morning of November 1, blaming Democratic New York Sen.
He added that he has ordered Homeland Security to step up "extreme vetting" of immigrants, like New York's terror suspect. "Being politically correct is fine, but not for this!", the president said in a Twitter post Tuesday night.
Eight people were killed and 11 were injured after a truck was driven into a cycleway in lower Manhattan, close to the site of the 9/11 memorial, on Tuesday afternoon. The FBI is investigating the case as a terrorist act.
The authorities called the incident an "act of terror".
"We are fighting hard for Merit Based immigration, no more Democrat Lottery Systems", Trump tweeted on Wednesday.
Suspect arrested after four people hurt in Munich knife attack
He said police have "no serious doubts" that the suspect was the assailant, and that there was no longer any danger to the public. The motivation for the attack is still unclear as the suspect refused to make a statement during his interrogation by police.
Given that the suspect isn't white, President Donald Trump was quick to condemn the attack, calling the suspect a "very sick and deranged person" yet offering no condolences whatsoever to the families of victims.
This response, taking action against Muslims, is in stark contrast with Trump's response to the Las Vegas shooting recently. The difference between Trump's responses to Las Vegas and NY show what type of terrorism he thinks requires a policy response - and what type requires only thoughts and prayers.
ISIS supporters have been praising the deadly truck rampage in NY which killed eight people yesterday as law enforcement sources revealed the suspect left behind handwritten notes pledging loyalty to the terror group. We have to get much smarter.
His clear policy agenda is to change the U.S. immigration system: "I am, today, starting the process of terminating the diversity lottery program", Trump said.
Earlier in the day, Trump vowed to keep ISIS out of America.
'We must not allow ISIS to return, or enter, our country after defeating them in the Middle East and elsewhere.
