'Missing' Lahore journalist Zeenat Shehzadi recovered after two years

The abducted female journalist Zeenat Shahzadi has been recovered from the border areas adjoining Afghanistan, two years after she was abducted from Lahore.

The retired judge said tribal elders of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had assisted in the journalist's recovery.

It was a result of this action on the part of Zeenat that the security forces were bound to agree that Hamid was in their custody. We also asked her not to put her life at risk but she said she wanted to help Ansari out of humanity. Unable to withstand the loss, Shahzadi's brother Saddam Hussain committed suicide in March past year, making her disappearance the focus of headlines again.

In March 2016, Zeenat Shahzadi's heart-broken brother Saddam also committed suicide at the abduction of her sister. Later, deputy attorney general of Pakistan informed the court that Hamid is in custody of the Pakistan army and had been sentenced to three-year imprisonment after court martial.

Turkana governor Josphat Nanok said 18 people suffered bullet wounds in the attack. The boy is accused of returning to the dormitories with two accomplices.

Reports say Two years ago, his younger brother Shahzadi had filed an application with the Supreme Court's Human Rights Cell on behalf of Fauzia Ansari, the Hamid Ansari, the mother who had gone missing in Pakistan in November 2012. "I told her that day that she was the answer to my prayers which it turns out she really was".

Shahzadi, reportedly travelled from Lahore to Islamabad to attend the hearings.

Hamid Ansari from Mumbai has been held captive in a Pakistani jail since the past five years.

It must be noted that Zeenat, 25, had raised her voice against the cases of missing persons in Pakistan. "I feel relieved because somewhere I feel responsible for what she had to go through", says Ansari, who came to know about Zeenat's release through social media. Shahzadi was due to appear before the Commission on Enforced Disappearances just days after she disappeared. "In addition to the missing persons' crisis, Pakistan ranks sixth in the Committee to Protect Journalists' list of the 20 deadliest countries for journalists in the world, and as the ninth worst country in the world for impunity for crimes against journalists", it said.
