Ford issued a safety recall for more than 1.3 million trucks in North America over faulty door latches

2017 Ford Super Duty

Almost 1.3 million F-150 and Super Duty trucks are affected by the recall, spanning model years 2015-2017. The recall is associated with faulty door latches that could cause water to infiltrate the door, eventually leading to the failure of the latch. In the first nine months of 2017, Ford has sold more than 820,000 of its F-Series pickups.

The company said it is "not aware" of any accidents or injuries that happened as a result of the issue.

To prevent frozen door latches before old man winter comes around, Ford will install water shields over the latches, in addition to fixing any broken actuation cables, free of charge. In total, 1,344,605 units are impacted.

The F-150 pickup has consistently been the best selling vehicle in the country for decades.

The F-Series has been the company's best-selling vehicle, and the Super Duty, made exclusively at Kentucky Truck Plant, has helped prop up profits because consumers increasingly are opting for higher-end models of the work truck.

Ford Motor Co. has recalled 1.3 million pickup trucks because of an issue that could allow a door to open while driving in certain conditions - the same problem the automaker had with some cars. Ford sold 820,000 of the F-series trucks in the USA previous year. It shares were flat at $12.20.
