Mayor Mick Cornett: Every day is Russell Westbrook Day in Oklahoma City!

Darnell Mayberry joins The Athletic Chicago as new Bulls beat writer
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Russell Westbrook has agreed to a five year extention to stay with Oklahoma City and is reported to be worth $205 million.
The signing makes for not just largest contract in Oklahoma City basketball history, but also for arguably the biggest day in the history of the Thunder franchise, giving the organization a feeling it hoped it would experience last summer when Kevin Durant hit free agency but made a decision to sign with the Golden State Warriors instead of returning to OKC.
"Westbrook will sign for the Designated Player Veteran Extension".
But after the team traded for Paul George and Carmelo Anthony during the offseason, Westbrook chose to secure his future with the Thunder.
The new deal will begin at the start of the 2018-19 season and will last until the end of the 2022-23 campaign; Westbrook will be 34 years old by then.
The Thunder is the 28th-largest media market out of 30 National Basketball Association cities. Keeping Westbrook was crucial to the Thunder's chances of remaining competitive in the Western Conference.
Russell Westbrook finally has help in Oklahoma City...
By Mayor Mick Cornett's official proclamation: From this day forward, Every Day is Russell Westbrook Day. After trading James Harden and losing Durant in free agency, the Thunder handed the keys of the franchise to Westbrook. Westbrook was not giving any indication about which direction he was leaning in regards to the contract extension.
The timing has many questioning Westbrook's motives.
Westbrook, the league's reigning MVP, has been sitting on the deal for months; the Thunder first dangled the deal in July.
Unless Oklahoma City is able to re-sign George, we might look back on 2017-18 as the high point of the post- Kevin Durant era for the Thunder.
Westbrook couldn't have picked a better time to agree to such a historic deal, as he is just a season removed from his historic 2016-17 outing. He also stated a year ago that Westbrook reminds him of his younger self, since he feels that he still has so much more to prove for the rest of his career.
