Interpol voted Wednesday to admit the State of Palestine as a member over Israeli objections at the worldwide police organization's general assembly in Beijing. Opponents say recognizing Palestine in global organizations undermines long-stalled negotiations with Israel for full statehood.

But Palestine's membership in Interpol shouldn't actually pose a new concern for Israel, he said: Pretty much the whole world is already in the police organization.

The PA's bid to join Interpol is part of a larger pattern whereby the PA evades direct negotiations and instead hijacks the missions of worldwide organizations to wage diplomatic war against Israel.

A bid for Palestinian inclusion failed past year, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the time was reflection of his nation's bolstered worldwide standing.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement that they and other countries had delayed the vote after complaining about irregularities.

"Almost every country in the world is a member of Interpol, with the notable exception of North Korea", Min said, including the Arab League, whose members view Israel with hostility. Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak called it "another failure" for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Palestinian candidacy was approved along with a bid by the Solomon Islands as the organisation held its annual general assembly in Beijing.

Global police agency Interpol has voted to include the "State of Palestine" as a member, in a new boost to Palestinian efforts for worldwide recognition.

Israel says Palestinian incitement has fuelled the attacks.

Before past attempts to earn membership in Interpol, Palestinian officials said they wanted to work with the organization to pursue Palestinian expatriates suspected of corruption and other crimes. "Therefore, we have the right to apply for membership in worldwide organizations". More than 130 countries recognize Palestine as a state.

A majority of more than two-thirds of the yes-or-no votes was needed to pass, and upon the count the one-country one-vote basis passed that threshold easily.

The approval vote requires the Palestinians to pay membership dues worth 0.03 percent of the Interpol budget.

"At Interpol, we aim to facilitate worldwide police cooperation even where diplomatic relations do not exist between particular countries", it says in a statement on its website.
