Zuma arrives in China for Brics summit

North Korea nuclear crisis Kim Jong-un ‘begging for war

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for China on Sunday to attend the BRICS Summit in the coastal city of Xiamen. "At the BRICS Summit, looking forward to building upon the results & outcomes of the Goa Summit a year ago, " he said in a series of tweets.

Hosted by President Xi Jinping on September 5, the summit had a significant role to play in revival of sluggish global economy with enhancing the circle of friends to convert it into BRICS Plus, he told a huge gathering of journalists here at BRICS media center.

He also pointed out the successful implementation of a BRICS Strategy for Economic Partnership which was adopted on Russia's initiative at the Ufa Summit in 2015.

But a revised globalisation chaperoned by BRICS, which includes democracies like India, South Africa and Brazil, is relatively credible. "I don't think this is an appropriate topic to be discussed at BRICS summit", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a briefing.

Highlighting the significance of BRICS, the Prime Minister said it has important contributions in addressing global challenges and upholding world peace and security.

Modi's visit was announced a day after India and China agreed to disengage their troops from the Doklam plateau in Bhutan.

Iran is adhering to nuclear deal limits, inspectors say
But for this to happen, United Nations inspectors must believe such checks are necessary and so far they do not, officials say. As well as the United States the hard-fought agreement also includes China, Russia, Britain, France and Germany.

Analysts say that approach demonstrates the openness and inclusiveness of the BRICS mechanism and will create more opportunities for developing nations to cooperate on trade, investment, e-commerce and more areas.

Apart from this Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will also visit Myanmar from September 5-7. "The global community should recognise the contributions and sacrifices made by Pakistan", said Hua.

The 9th Brics summit would be held under the theme "Brics: Stronger partnership for a brighter future", the presidency said in a statement.

Coincidentally, Myanmar was also the first country that Modi had visited after carrying out his first reshuffle.

The Prime Minister added he is looking forward to visiting the famed heritage city of Bagan, where the Archaeological Survey of India has renovated the Ananda Temple, and will be undertaking further restoration work on a number of pagodas and murals that were damaged in last year's quake.
