Israel to reopen sensitive Jerusalem holy site

Hopefully, the Temple Mount metal detectors will do the same.

Palestinian rioters clashed with Israeli police on Tuesday night in Jerusalem's Old City for the second night in a row.

In addition, they have issued a declaration that Friday prayers will be conducted in public squares in Palestinian cities to denounce Israeli "terrorist procedures" in East Jerusalem.

"I have personally learned from Western sources that there is a compromise proposed by Americans to remove the metal detectors from the entrances of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to only do inspections at the mosque doors", he added.

The Palestinians feared that Israel would retake control of the site by stealth.

More than 300 Palestinians have been killed in alleged attacks on Israelis or in clashes with Israeli forces since October 2015, according to Palestinian figures.

During that incident, two Israeli security officers were killed in an alleged attack by three Palestinians who were killed by Israeli police following the violence.

In light of the metal detector installation, Jordan's Islamic religious affairs authority at Al Aqsa (The Waqf) was "outraged", according to reports. One of them said that the compound was relatively empty, with few Muslim visitors.

In recent months, far-right Israeli lawmakers renewed their calls to change the long-held status quo and to lift the restrictions on Jewish prays, escalating the tensions in and around the compound.

Stockists are also advised to contact the British Bridal Suppliers Association (BBSA) for advice on how to proceed. In San Antonio, Texas, police told television station WOAI that dispatchers received 911 calls about the closure.

Netanyahu spoke to Israeli security chiefs by phone on Wednesday. Jordan's king is now on vacation in the US, Israel's prime minister is in Europe and the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is on a four-day visit to China. Several hundred Muslims continued to pray outside the entrances.

Halevi said that despite the protests, Israel will not withdraw the safety measures.

Jordan and the Waqf have said that after 1967, the Waqf remained in charge of who can enter the compound. "We will not accept being checked every time we want to get inside", he said.

Netanyahu rejected Muslim allegations that Israel is changing long-standing arrangements at the shrine.

Also on Monday, an Israeli minister announced that the metal detector was not subject to any negotiation. "It is only meant to prevent a repeat of an attack with weapons". Under the status quo that governs Muslim and Jewish access to the Mount, Jews are prohibited from praying there.

It was to be reopened gradually, police said, without providing details. They said Abbas and other "Arab political and religious leaders must now take concrete action to curb anti-Israel incitement".

"In response to the immediate threat, forces fired shots towards the assailant", the Israeli military said. Its closure after Friday's attack prompted condemnations from the Arab world.

"Israel Police... will enforce standing regulations at the site".
