Australian woman shot dead by police after dialling 911 to report assault

Investigators in Minneapolis are looking into what lead to the fatal police shooting of an Australian woman as officers responded to a possible assault.

Justine Damond died in a shooting in the USA city of Minneapolis.

Mayor Betsy Hodges said in a press conference (video available via KARE 11) that she is "heartsick and deeply disturbed" by the shooting. The BCA said the officers' body cameras were not turned on and their patrol vehicle camera did not capture the incident.

The officers responded to the call and pulled into an alley where Damond approached them in her pajamas to explain her call, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Justine Damond, a Sydney woman who'd been living with her fiancé and son in Minneapolis, was shot dead after calling 911 to report an alleyway attack.

He and another officer have been placed on administrative leave.

"I have questions about why the bodycams weren't on", Hodges said. I've asked for the investigation to be expedited to provide transparency and to answer as many questions as quickly as we can.

Sterlace said Damond visited many times and described her as kind and polite. If a body camera isn't turned on before use of force, it's supposed to be turned on as soon as it's safe to do so.

Officer Noor is then said to have have fired his weapon though the window, killing Ms Damond.

Hackers stole guests' credit card numbers from Trump Hotels for months

Officials are trying to find video evidence of the incident.

It has been reported she was due to marry her fiance Don Damond (50) next month.

Ruszczyk was originally from Australia, though she was a U.S. citizen because her father holds USA citizenship, the source who knew her said.

The woman's stepson Zach Damond has earlier taken to Facebook Live, seeking answers and condemning gun violence in the United States.

Ms Damond studied to be a veterinarian before she relocated to the USA, where she was believed to have been for at least the last three years.

Sterlace talked to her father after it happened and said her family is just heartbroken.

In a statement released by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the family of the woman - whom Minneapolis authorities haven't identified yet - says this is a hard time.

Local residents held a vigil over the weekend where hundreds gathered to remember the woman and call for police reform, KSTP reports.
