Johanna Konta can win the Wimbledon women's singles title claims Virginia Wade

Venus Williams will play in the Wimbledon final for the ninth time in her career and first time since 2009 after defeating Great Britain's Johanna Konta in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-2, on Centre Court on Thursday.

Muguruza, who is seeded 14th, will meet the unseeded Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia, who beat American Coco Vandeweghe 6-3 6-3 in a rain-delayed contest to reach the semi-finals of a grand slam for the first time.

American Williams, 37, is the oldest player to reach the last four since Martina Navratilova in 1994, but says she doesn't think about her age.

Serena is missing Wimbledon, where she has won the last two titles and seven in total, as she prepares to become a mother for the first time. Muguruza was beaten by Serena 6-4, 6-4 in the 2015 Wimbledon final.

Play on Centre Court at Wimbledon in the women's semifinals has started. At 4-4 in the first, Williams saved one and then fired down a second serve at 106mph to deny Konta the advantage.

On Konta, Williams said: "She played an wonderful tournament".

"I definitely feel like there's no reason why I would not be able to be in a position to win a title like this one day", Konta said.

At the Australia Open in 2016, Konta attempted to clarify any confusion about her nationality.

"I'm just surprised it's taken so long", Wade said. "I think it was all credit to her". "It won't be a given but I'll give it my all", Williams said about Saturday's mouth watering encounter with Muguruza. She hit a powerful backhand return and followed it up with a crisp volley at the net to secure the first break of the match. The crowd were very nice to me. She showed a lot of courage, played in tough situations against players who were in form. I miss Serena terribly.

"I haven't really seen her matches, honestly. I tried to climb on top and get another point".

Pliskova has won three titles this year, in Brisbane, Doha and the Wimbledon warm-up event at Eastbourne. "I want to win whoever I face".

Williams used the vast weapons garnered through years of experience to unsettle Konta's rhythm - particularly on the Briton's previously solid serve.
