Transformers debuts to a franchise low

Its five-day opening, after debuting on Wednesday, June 21, comes in at $69 million, which itself is just below the $70.5 million three day opening for the first Transformers movie, which opened in theaters nearly exactly 10 years ago.
But the movie starringMark Wahlberg was a huge hit in China, where it debuted with 123.4 million USA dollars (£96.4 million). But - surprise - the fifth "Transformers" movie, "The Last Knight", is far from the worst in this continuing experiment in noisy nonsense based on Hasbro toys.
The Transformers franchise has never been a favorite of critics, with The Last Knight now sporting a lowly 15 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As of Sunday, the film's global haul sits at $196.2 million after rolling out in 41 markets worldwide, spearheaded by $123.4 million coming from China alone. I watch them to see lovely visuals, incredible action, and magic that Bay brings to his films as director. Upcoming markets for the film include France (June 28), Brazil (July 20), Mexico (July 21), Japan (August 4) and Spain (August 4).
Anthony Hopkins joins the ensemble as Sir Edmund Burton, an astronomer and historian with a vast knowledge of the Transformers' history on Earth, with Laura Haddock as Viviane Wembly, a professor of English literature at the University of Oxford; Isabela Moner as Izabella, a street-wise tomboy; Tyrese Gibson as Robert Epps, a former N.E.S.T. airman and retired US Air Force Sergeant who partnered with the Autobots prior to the events of Age of Extinction, and John Turturro as Seymour Simmons, a former government agent turned successful writer, who allied with the Autobots.
DirectorMichael Bay and Wahlberg have stated this will be their last film, but the studio has plans for future films and spin-offs that will hopefully be used to create a shared universe similar to that of Marvel's Cinematic Universe. The computer-animated comedy film reported an early worldwide total of 141.3 million to date. Internationally, The Last Knight was the biggest IMAX opening for the Transformers franchise, earning $16.7 million on 652 IMAX screens in 51 territories (with $11.7 million coming from China).

As a whole, the Transformers franchise is a lot of summer blockbuster fun, that's really only had one big miss in four films.
Disney Pixar's Cars 3 earned another $25.2 million and has grossed more than $100 million at the domestic box office.
What can already be revealed, however, is the fact that "Wonder Woman" has moved comfortably past the $300 million domestic mark. Almost a month after opening, "Wonder Woman" continues to be a major draw. The film has a two-week running total of $24M.
Tom Cruise's The Mummy continues to disappoint at the domestic box office as well with just $64.4 million amassed in two weeks of release.
In fourth place was the shark thriller "47 Meters Down", which took in $7.4 million. The low previously belonged to the 2007 original, which earned $70.5 million in its first Friday-Sunday weekend.
