Wonder Woman breaks box office records for female director

The film made USD$100.5 million at the U.S. box office in its opening weekend, making it the highest-grossing opening weekend for a female-directed film (the title previously held by 50 Shades Of Grey, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson). Such an accomplishment means the film, which is directed by Patty Jenkins, now holds the record for the biggest opening out of any movie directed by a woman.

Directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Patty Jenkins, the film also features Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Lucy Davis and Doutzen Kroes among others. The success of Wonder Woman has boosted overall box office figures for this summer and Warner Brothers' executives are understandably glowing, he continues.

While the Israeli actress will focus on the upcoming DCEU release Justice League, director Patty Jenkins has to jump over the November release to focus on the Wonder Woman sequel. The previous mark was Sam Taylor-Johnson's Fifty Shades of Grey, with $85.1 million United States in 2015. The current "Wonder Woman" film is set in WWI-era Europe, so it will be interesting to see what baddies Diana of Themyscira will battle on this side of the Atlantic. And so, you know, there is always that opportunity in any movie with a metaphor to use to make something handsome that really touches people. While Wonder Woman didn't match the box-office might of Batman v. Superman (a $166 million opening) or Suicide Squad ($133.7 million), it was much better received than those roundly derided releases.

Wonder Woman breaks box office record for female-directed films
Wonder Woman is about to land in the dark rooms of France and is already thinking about his next fighting. That should put to rest the Fox News commentators who opine that Wonder Woman isn't "American enough".

The possible return of Chris Pine for Wonder Woman 2 is a big question that has yet to be answered. "She's Wonder Woman. She's got to come to America". It landed in third place, behind Fox's Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie.

Where does Wonder Woman now stand against the other movies in the DC Extended Universe?

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. The film has made $223 million internationally. A year ago alone, DC and Marvel combined for five major releases.
