Trump's friend Christopher Ruddy says President 'considering' firing Mueller
Trump ally Chris Ruddy has caused quite a stir over the past 24 hours.
Supporters of President Donald Trump floated the idea Monday that Trump should fire Mueller, and Chris Ruddy, a Trump confidant, told reporters after leaving the White House yesterday that Trump was considering doing just that. "I personally think it would be a very significant mistake-even though I don't think there's a justification. for a special counsel in this case". Other Trump allies oppose the investigation through a thread of interlinked objections: that Meuller's probe is unnecessary, that he is hiring an assemblage of biased attorneys who have donated to the Democrats in the past, and that his close relationship with Comey is compromising. Asked to respond, Spicer said he called "and asked him to clarify that his statement was not based on any meetings or conversations with the president".
Given that standard, they might well conclude that firing Mueller is okay too.
On ABC's "This Week", Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow wouldn't rule out the president eventually having to fire Mueller, although he said he "can't imagine" it would come to that. "What's he done to be fired?"
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Tuesday that Trump called him Monday night because of Gingrich's concerns about the Russian Federation probe.
Ryan said the smartest thing for the president to do would be to let the investigation continue and be vindicated.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a California Republican, interrupted one question directed at the speaker on the topic, saying "you're creating a debate that's not happening".
After news of Ruddy's interview surfaced, Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, tweeted: "If President fired Bob Mueller, Congress would immediately re-establish independent counsel and appoint Bob Mueller. With respect to this subject, only the President or his attorneys are authorized to comment". The move would be Nixonian. Mueller's law firm, WilmerHale, has represented Trump's former campaign manager and also some Trump family members.
But in this particular case, Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recused himself from anything relating to the Russian Federation investigation.
Apart from Rosenstein and Sessions, the only confirmed Justice official is Rachel Brand, the associate attorney general, whom the Senate approved on a party-line vote.
He said he's confident that Mueller will have "the full independence he needs" to investigate.
Rosenstein said "no, I have not", when asked by Sen. "I know for a fact that he was under consideration and that the President did talk with him in the days before he was named special counsel". That's what I would do. When the CBO said that Trumpcare will cause 24 million people to lose their health insurance, he said that the CBO should be abolished completely - never mind that it's run by a Republican.
Ruddy argued that Mueller should not have taken the job of special counsel because he was under consideration for the other position, and had had the private meeting with the president for the Federal Bureau of Investigation director appointment.
Spicer dismissed the suit as nothing more than a political attack against the president.

Ms sanders also said says the president was pleased with attorney general Jeff Sessions' evidence to Congress on Tuesday. Ruddy was at the White House on Monday to meet White House aides, but did not speak with the president, Spicer said.
