Qatar keep World Cup hopes alive

South Korean players react to their 3-2 loss to Qatar in the teams&apos World Cup qualifying match at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha

Qatar's Mohammed Kasoala (C) attempts a shot on goal during the World Cup 2018 Asia qualifying football match between Qatar and South Korea at the Jassim Bin Hamad stadium in Doha on Tuesday.

The team that finishes third will head into play-offs for a place in Russian Federation.

The coach of South Korea has been speaking after his side's 3-2 defeat to Qatar, with his comments published by French newspaper L'Equipe.

Goals from South Korea's Ki Sung-Yueng and Hwang Hee-Chan in the 62nd and 69th minute seemed to have secured South Korea a valuable point in their attempt to get to Russian Federation, but fine work from Brazilian-born Rodrigo Tabata set up Al-Haydos for a 74th-minute victor.

Qatar threatened again at the start of the second half and, after shooting wide from close range, Al Haydos turned provider for a second goal, Afif driving high past Kwoun Sun-tae.

But after the 3-2 defeat in Doha - South Korea's first to Qatar in 32 years - the Korean Football Association turned on Steilike, whose team has also lost to Iran and China in Group A.

Saudi-led squeeze on Qatar leaves Hamas facing big questions
She said families of the missing Palestinians have been seeking information about them but so far nothing has come up. But its small size and reliance on food imports from Saudi Arabia could make it susceptible to pressure.

Third place would secure a playoff against the similarly placed team in Asia's other qualifying group, with the victor of that tie going on to face the fourth placed team from CONCACAF in an inter-confederation playoff for a berth in Russian Federation.

Tuesday's loss leaves Korea second in their qualifying group, a point clear of third-placed Uzbekistan. "Because we have two more matches remaining in the final qualification, it's not over yet".

"KFA may discuss the coach's position when it holds a meeting of its technical committee", he added.

In Group A, South Korea has work to do to reach a ninth successive World Cup after losing in Doha.

Now, their advancement to the 2018 FIFA World Cup all depends on the next two matches, scheduled to be played in August and September. But Salih, who had complained bitterly that China's penalty was soft, stepped up in injury time to place his free kick past goalkeeper Zeng Cheng and earn a point for Syria.
