What happened in Bill Cosby's sexual-assault trial

13 June 2017, 10:58 | Nina Hammond

She took the stand immediately after her daughter, who began testifying Tuesday and then spent three more hours under cross-examination on Wednesday morning.

Later, in an attempt to establish their romantic past, Agrusa highlighted Constand's account of a fireside dinner at Cosby's home with brandy and wine in which she told police he placed his hand on her thigh.

"These three friends will help you relax", Feden quoted Cosby as saying to Andrea Constand.

Bill Cosby told the mother of the woman who has accused him of sexual assault that he was a "sick man" and apologised, the mother testified yesterday at the comedian's criminal trial.

"You said 'allowed, '" Constand responded.

Constand was direct and polite under cross-examination, even when Cosby lawyer Angela Agrusa's questioning grew pointed and accusatory.

"I spoke to her at all hours", Constand said. She says he also apologized.

"You're coming to the man that assaulted you and you're bringing him bath salts?" she said.

"As long as she maintains a 3-point average, she'll be fine", Cosby says on the tape.

Agrusa also asked Constand about accepting a $225 blowdryer from Cosby and changing her hairstyle. Andrea Constand emerged from 12 years of silence Tuesday to testify. Constand said the calls were about Temple women's basketball, and they ended when she stopped working there.

The attorney, who represents several women that have accused the embattled actor of sexual assault, was escorted out of the hearing by Montgomery County court officers after failing to turn off her mobile device.

Uber Fires Executive Who Allegedly Obtained Indian Rape Victim's Medical Records
But sources inside Uber said that the company is in discussions with Michael of a "legal nature" related to an expected exit. The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that Chief Business Officer Emil Michael is planning to resign as soon as Monday.

Agrusa proposed that these incidents - on one occasion Cosby touched her thigh, and on another he tried to undo her trousers - were signs of Cosby's romantic interest.

Andrea Constand says she was returning Bill Cosby's phone calls in March 2004 when she called the entertainer 53 times after he allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted her in January of that year, she testified Wednesday. Moments later, Cosby traipsed through the hallway with his defense team.

Because the case lacks forensic evidence - and Cosby is not expected to take the stand - the verdict rests largely on the jury's interpretation of his accuser's testimony.

Cosby, 79, is charged with aggravated indecent assault and he could be jailed for 10 years if convicted. In that phone call, Cosby asked the mother to get Andrea on the phone and explain what happened because "he wasn't going to tell the truth", Gianna Constand said.

"Andrea never shared anything with you" about their romantic relationship?

Cosby, one of the towering figures of United States popular culture in the second half of the 20th century, was once adored by millions as "America's Dad" for his seminal role as a lovable father and obstetrician on hit TV series The Cosby Show. Where McMonagle alleged Constand lay in bed with him, she contended she sat on the bed next to him.

"I mean, all they're doing is talking about phone calls", Allred said.

The veteran legal eagle said she was puzzled by how her phone was not on silent.

Constand did not report the alleged January 2004 assault to authorities until January 2005, after she returned home to Canada and after she told her mother.

Allred represents more than a dozen of the 50-plus women who have alleged they were sexually assaulted by Cosby, but the statute of limitations for prosecution had run out in almost every case.

Prosecutors gave no sign of whom their remaining witnesses might be, though they previously signaled they wanted to call experts on the treatment of sexual-abuse victims and forensic toxicology.
