Iran Dismisses White House Statement on Terror Attack as "Repugnant"

10 June 2017, 05:09 | Katrina Lee

Multiple attackers used suicide bombs and rifles to kill more than a dozen people and wounding even more before all five were killed.

The Iran's Revolutionary Guards has blamed Saudi Arabia for Wednesday's two deadly terror attacks on its parliament and on the shrine of Ayatollah Khomeini.

Iran's foreign minister rejected Donald Trump's condolences Thursday after a pair of ISIS-claimed attacks in Tehran, calling the president's words "repugnant".

Mohammad Javad Zarif called the comments "repugnant" and accused the USA of supporting terror. "Iranian people reject such USA claims of friendship".

The attackers targeted two symbolically significant places: the Parliament building and the mausoleum of the Islamic Republic's founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini-not to be confused with the country's current Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

He said anti-Iranian remarks by Saudi Arabia's foreign minister and President Trump are a "matter of disgrace" for them.

Saudi Arabia said it was not involved.

Saudi Arabia has denied involvement, Reuters reports.

Two Sunni militant groups, Jaish al-Adl and Jundallah, have been also waging an insurgency in Iran, mostly in remote areas, for nearly a decade.

Lukaku reveals his mind is made up regarding his future
Lukaku's main strength is arguably his huge physical strength. "At the moment the Premier League is the best league for me". Both Premier League clubs want the Belgium striker, 24, to lead their line when the new campaign kicks off in August.

The Revolutionary Guard Corps, meanwhile, has accused Saudi Arabia and the US of standing behind Wednesday's deadly attacks.

All six of the attackers, who all died in the assault, have been identified.

Trump issued a written statement saying he felt for Iranian civilians, but the government has itself to blame for the attack.

Summaryāˇ™ Print Iranian authorities linked the Islamic State attackers to a larger cell whose leader was killed by security forces previous year.

However, Iranian security officials counter that it is their regional rival Saudi Arabia, a close United States ally, that is responsible for funding and spreading the extremism that underpins Daesh.

The intelligence ministry said the attacks were carried out by five Iranian men who had joined IS and travelled to their bastions in Iraq and Syria before returning home.

On Thursday, Iranian Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said investigators were working to determine whether Saudi Arabia had a role in Wednesday's attacks but said it was too soon to say whether that was the case.

During a speech that was planned before the attack on June 7, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei addressed the attacks and linked them to Iran's support for the governments of Iraq and Syria in their fights against IS.

While Trump expressed sympathy for the victims he levelled a barbed warning at Iran, after the U.S. leader took a hard line on the nation during a recent Middle East visit.
