Trump Poised To Announce Decision On Paris Climate Agreement

China said Thursday that it will work with the European Union to uphold the worldwide agreement on climate change even if the USA pulls out.
"We need a framework like that to address the challenge of climate change, the risk of climate change", Darren Woods, CEO of Exxon Mobil, said Wednesday.
Trump could decide as early as this week whether the United States will remain in the historic Paris Agreement, which reflects a voluntary commitment by the world's governments to reduce their carbon emissions.
Obama had made efforts during his administration to reduce United States emissions in an attempt to avert catastrophic climate change.
The agreement makes provision for parties to quit, but notice can be given only three years after its entry into force.
Abandoning the pact would isolate the USA from a raft of worldwide allies who spent years negotiating the 2015 agreement to fight global warming and pollution by reducing carbon emissions.
Established at the 2015 conference, the Paris climate agreement between 195 countries pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and avoid the most catastrophic impacts of climate change.
"It's not just about the future of humanity in Europe, above all it's about the future of humanity elsewhere", he said.
Should the United States pull out of the pact and seek to protect old-school jobs in coal and oil, it would risk losing the chance to lead the world in developing environmentally friendly technology - and generate the jobs that come with it.
During his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump blasted the accord, saying it would cost the USA economy trillions of dollars with no tangible benefit.
Many big companies say they must make long-term investment decisions based on the assumption that most countries will stiffen environmental standards.
Speaking from Brussels, European officials said the effort to advance a low-carbon economy had considerable economic support.
Almost 200 nations, including the United States, agreed in 2015 to voluntarily reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in an effort to combat climate change. In the absence of federal action to address climate change, some left-leaning states such as California and NY are moving ahead with ambitious clean-energy policies of their own.
Trump had previously expressed his refusal to accept the science of climate change.
A United States withdrawal would come fewer than 18 months after the historic 196-nation pact was signed in the French capital, the fruit of a hard-fought agreement between Beijing and Washington under Barack Obama's leadership.
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker also warned Trump against exiting the Parisclimate change deal - a treaty ratified by the United States previous year - in a speech Wednesday, declaring: "The law is the law, and everyone must adhere to it".
Dixon lucky to walk away alive from horrific collision
The impact didn't cause the destruction, that came from Dixon's auto pinwheeling horizontally across the inner retaining wall. It was definitely a wild ride, for sure, and big thanks to everybody [who helped] and the safety standards we have right now.
