25 May 2017, 01:31 | Stacy Ballard
Weather Alert Day for Tuesday
Forecasters say powerful thunderstorms are possible across parts of the South, bringing the threat of tornadoes to north and central Florida as well as south Georgia.
A Hazardous Weather Outlook report also released this morning said some thunderstorms expected this afternoon and evening could produce gusting winds and "marginally severe hail" through 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, which issued the tornado watch that began at 10:10 a.m., showers and thunderstorms are likely today. Mainly dry now, but we'll see the clouds build, the winds increase and the storms develop later today. "If you're in one of those slow-moving storms, the potential is there for significantly more rainfall".
Scattered showers on Wednesday will taper off by mid-morning, leaving the area with mostly cloudy skies and isolated showers for the afternoon.
Waterspouts over the Intracoastal are also possible and boaters are urged to keep a close eye on approaching storm from the southwest which could produce offshore gusts up to 35 knots. A marginal risk of severe weather (1 out of 5) includes a portion of our area that are shaded in green.
Heavy rains are expected through the night. High will reach the middle 80s beginning Saturday and then last through Memorial Day.
