Officials were working to corral a whale back into the ocean Saturday after the marine mammal somehow became stuck in the Ventura Harbor

Rescue workers have attempted to guide a humpback whale out to sea after it became stuck in a California harbour.

Ventura Harbor Patrol said the whale was not located during the morning sweep of the harbor.

The 30-foot-long whale was first spotted swimming in the harbor around 3 p.m. Saturday, said harborman George Kabris.

Whale experts told Higgins it appeared to be a healthy juvenile, although he didn't know its age. The mammal breached the water several times and swam around the docks as large crowds of people gathered in the parking lot area above. "All the stuff that we were trying was exactly that, just trying the best that we could to respect the animal and not try to further agitate it", said John Higgins, a harbor master for the Ventura Port District.

Paul Nuttall kept calling Leanne Wood "Natalie" in the leaders' debate
That left Tim Farron, Paul Nuttall, Caroline Lucas and Leanne Wood alongside the First Minister in a head-to-head clash. And the UKIP leader made the same gaffe again, saying "I think that Natalie's absolutely right, what we need to do is".

The Coast Guard, the National Parks Service and local authorities were involved in the effort.

Rescuers used a hydrophone to play recorded whale sounds underwater in an unsuccessful attempt to guide the whale back to the ocean.

One plan to help rescue the creature involves playing familiar whale sounds and recordings in the hope it might try to find members of its fellow species.
