NBC's Timeless Is Un-Cancelled

Timeless

This is not a drill: NBC has reversed course on its decision to cancel Timeless.

The Hollywood Reporter followed up on Kripke's announcement to confirm that Timeless will air a second season with NBC in summer 2018 and to dish a few details on why the network changed its mind. Initially thought #Timeless would be on next summer, now it may be 2018 spring.

The end of a TV show's inaugural season can be a tough time for fans.

Despite the show being axed by NBC, there is still a glimmer of hope for the fans to see another season of "Timeless". With the economics even on NBC's most successful owned series, the Chicago franchise, challenging with lack of off-network deals and modest global sales, I hear the network set strict guidelines for its bubble drama series with outside suppliers, Warner Bros.

Producers Sony TV fought hard to keep the show going after the initial cancellation with both Kripke and co-creator/co-showrunner Shawn Ryan having pitched a family-friendly take on season two. "We all saw the value of having more of these shows; we like these shows". Television offered an ownership stake in the series and greater financial incentives.

Mamadou Sakho Out for Rest of Season
That philosophy has to apply for Sunday and whatever happens, however well you play or don't play, it's the result that matters. We need to win the next (game) and it is like a final to us. "It is important for us that we do not change anything".

Earlier this week, series co-creator Eric Kripke tweeted that he and his co-creator, Shaw Ryan, will try to find another home for the series.

Timeless is the only time-travel show to survive the past week, as Time After Time, Frequency, and Making History were all done away with.

Delayed viewing did at times bring in 80% or more additional viewers, but with the ownership of Timeless being shared between NBC and Sony, the initial decision to cancel wasn't entirely surprising.

This week marks the 2017 television upfronts, in which networks reveal next season's programming for advertisers. "I just wanted to hop on and tell you that I think the mission was successful".

Lanter also announced the news via his Facebook page.
