Trump on Colbert: 'What he says is filthy'

Colbert responds to online backlash
Stephen Colbert started "The Late Show" on Tuesday night with the news that just hit before he took the stage: FBI Director James Comey had been fired by President Donald Trump.
"Sorry Colbert, you may have won the ratings this month, but you have a long way to go", Reviews.org snarks. Referring to Colbert's attention-grabbing joke last week at the expense of President Donald Trump, he said, "You have a potty mouth". "And what he says is filthy", Trump told Time.
"It's nearly like a majority of Americans didn't want you to be president", Colbert said. There's nothing amusing about what he says - what he says is filthy. What he says is filthy. "You have kids watching".
In his remarks to media Thursday, Trump said Colbert's crude comments "only builds up my base". It's not that I think Stewart affects policy in any meaningful way-he's largely preaching to my liberal coastal elitist choir, but it did help to process outrageous and terrifying news when people as amusing as Stewart and his golden-era correspondents were there taking us through it, as outraged as the rest of us and making us laugh for a few minutes.
The Late Show airs weeknights on CBS at 11:35 p.m. ET. The guy was dying. But his show was dying. "But I never thought one of those things would be show business", he said. But after today's ratings revealed that not only did the show remain the most watched late night program, but the controversy gave the series a 12% bump in viewership, I'd guess they probably have no complaints. It was high -highest rating. "The highest rating he's ever had", he said".
Trump also noted that his appearance on the show helped Colbert's television ratings. Bush stopped by Colbert's show in September 2015, and the episode scored 6.6 million viewers.
Colbert came under fire for the joke, which he told during a "Late Show" episode last week. "Trump's ego is so huge that he can't even let someone else have the spotlight in his own alibi", he said. The joke was panned as homophobic and drew outrage from fans, who quickly made the hashtag #FireColbert a trending topic on Twitter.
Comedians aren't the only ones wearing down the Trump administration, either.
