The lawyer, Mathew J. Nadumpara, told chief justice J.S. Khehar that he had approached a large number of lawyers (advocates-on-record) to file the petition "but they all refused as they are very afraid of you" (SC bench).
The plea on behalf of the judge was mentioned before the bench which had just concluded the day's hearing on the issue of triple talaq.
Nedumpara said he had visited Justice Karnan in Chennai on Wednesday to get his signature.
"We are not the registry".
When Nadumpara mentioned the petition, CJI Khehar asked: "Who are you?" You can not keep on handing papers to us.
CJI Khehar said he would consider the plea.
Nedumpura - who said he had been given the power of attorney (authority) by Justice Karnan to act on his behalf in the court - sought the early hearing saying the court's registry had told him there was no urgency.
USA employment up in April, jobless rate falls to 4.4%
With the stronger than expected job growth, the unemployment rate edged down to 4.4% in April from 4.5% in March. The Fed raised rates by a quarter of a percentage point in March and has forecast two more increases this year.
Justice Karnan had on Thursday contended before the apex court that the Registry was not admitting his write petition against the apex court's May 9 order. A team consisting of senior police officers from West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have launched a manhunt for Karnan.
For the police of two states hoping to arrest him, Calcutta High Court judge CS Karnan has remained untraceable.
The seven-judge bench of the apex court had on May 9 passed the order sentencing Karnan to jail by holding him guilty of contempt of court and sentencing him to six months imprisonment, a day after he defiantly ordered eight apex court judges to be put behind bars. He was due to retire next month.
To Justice Karnan's lawyer's request, the SC said he could file an application and be heard when judges are available.
Along with the Chief Justice of India, six judges - Justice Dipak Misra, Justice J. Chelameswar, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Madan B. Lokur, Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Justice Kurian Joseph - had initiated suo motu contempt proceedings against Justice Karnan in February after he had named 20 "corrupt judges", seeking a probe against them.
However, before the pronouncement of the apex court order, Justice Karnan had left Kolkata and was reported to be staying in Chennai.
